Immunizing peptide corresponds to amino acid residues 1-16 from human PPAR gamma 2. This sequence is absent in PPAR gamma 1. The sequence is 16 amino acids and is is derived from human PPARg2; this sequence is absent in PPARg1. A COOH-terminal cysteine residue was added for conjugation to KLH. ||Peroxisome proliferators are non-genotoxic carcinogens which are purported to exert their effect on cells through their interaction with members of the nuclear hormone receptor family, termed peroxisome proliferator activated receptors (PPARs). Nuclear hormone receptors are ligand-dependent intracellular proteins that stimulate transcription of specific genes by binding to specific DNA sequences following activation by the appropriate ligand. Activation of rat liver PPAR alpha has been shown to suppress hepatocyte apoptosis.
