AITC is a bifunctional enzyme that catalyzes the last two steps of de novo purine biosynthesis. Increases the intracellular levels of AICAR leading to the activation of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK). Shown to reduce cell viability in a dose-dependent manner.
