RiftValleyFever(RFV)virusisanarthropod-bornevirusendemictoAfricathatinfectshumansandanimalsthatistransmittedpredominantlybymosquitoes.Duringhumaninfections,symptomscanrangefrombenignfevertosevereencephalitisandfatalhepatitiswithhemorrhagicfever.TheBunyaviridaefamilyofvirusestowhichtheRVFvirusbelongsaresphericalenvelopedviruseswithatripartiteRNAgenomeofnegativeorambisensepolarity.ThethreesegmentsarereferredtoastheL,M,andSsegments.TheLandMsegmentsarenegativepolarityandcodeforetheL-dependentRNApolymeraseandglycoproteinprecursorrespectively.TheSsegmentisofambisensepolarityandencodesthenucleoproteinandnon-structuralproteins.ThisRVFvirusantibodywasderivedfromapeptidesequencenearthecenterofthepolyproteinprecursortranslatedfromtheMsegment.ItwillthereforedetectboththeprecursorandtheGlycoproteinG1.
