Avidin is a tetrameric biotin-binding protein produced in the oviducts of birds, reptiles and amphibians deposited in the whites of their eggs. In chicken egg white, avidin makes up approximately 0.05% of total protein (~1.8mg/egg). The tetrameric protein contains four identical subunits (homotetramer), each of which can bind to biotin (Vitamin B7, vitamin H) with a high degree of affinity and specificity.
Applications: |Suitable for use in ELISA, Western Blot, Immunohistochemistry. Other applications not tested.
Recommended Dilution
ELISA: 1:2000-1:20,000Western Blot: 1:1000-1:10,000Immunohistochemistry: 1:1000-1:5000Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.
Storage and Stability
May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months after receipt. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
